Atlantic Sea Farms
Challenge
We worked closely with Atlantic Sea Farms on tackling a brand development project, inclusive of naming, identity and packaging, that is as much about changing consumer perceptions as it is about educating consumers about the environmental impact of their choices.
The existing market norm of dyed and processed seaweed made it essential to re-educate and present high-quality Maine-grown kelp to consumers. Creative design must center around effectively showcasing kelp’s nutritional richness while conveying Atlantic Sea Farms’ commitment to supporting local fishermen and kelp growers as a hope for a sustainable future.

Solution
We crafted a brand world for Atlantic Sea Farms, grounded in organic shades of yellow, green, and blue, reflecting kelp’s true colors and the pristine Maine waters where it’s grown. The transparent packaging was vital, allowing consumers to see actual kelp and deviate from their expectations of the neon green takeout seaweed salad. An equally important part of our effort was reinforcing Atlantic Sea Farm’s mission of supporting local communities and coastal economies: packaging must personalize the brand by featuring a picture and brief profile of a real kelp farmer in Maine. We prioritized real sustainability with recyclable materials and soy inks for frozen kelp packaging, emphasizing functionality with perfectly sized boxes to minimize waste. The recognition of their products as 20202 and 2021 Good Food Award winners proves that Atlantic Sea Farms is about style and substance to stand out in the mark
